From her early childhood days “painting” the sidewalks and brick walls of her native Philadelphia home, Deborah was encouraged and nurtured by her grandmother to draw and create to her hearts content. As a student of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Deborah defined and refined her interest to depicting the human form. A foray into the world of competitive bodybuilding provided another opportunity to create her own physique as a work of art. The artist as both the medium and art itself. She is best known for her dramatic depictions of butterflies and the spirit of metamorphosis they represent- a fitting transition from her days of bodybuilding. During this period she also taught art for over twenty years at a private school in northern Pennsylvania and in her own studio. Deborah has studied with a number of renowned artists including: Will Barnet, Sydney Goodman and Elizabeth Osborne. She is also a teacher of young artists as an art educator. Today, Deborah turns her attention to the avian world. There are many ways of observing and interpreting our world through art. Deborah shows how she has developed her own personal way of depicting birds.
Deborah Diana Body Builder A week before the Ms. Olympia on August 23, 1980, Kim Cassidy promoted the first contest in the Washington DC area and called it the National Capitol Championships. Twenty contestants competed in this inaugural event with Pennsylvania's Deborah Diana winning the title unanimously and adding the ‘Best Muscletone', and ‘Best Presentation' trophies.
